An Inspiring Practical Day Learning Gell Printing with Sue Cooper
This is a hands-on practical day workshop working with a gell plate to print images and patterns onto fabric and paper.
We are thrilled to have textile teacher and Textile Artist Maker Sue Cooper, join us to lead this workshop. Sue brings her experience both as a textiles print designer and textiles teacher, developing this inspiring practical course for anyone wishing to experiment more widely with a variety of new techniques, processes and contexts, and especially for teachers who are new to the Art Textiles GCSE specification.
The course will explore a range of interpretations, providing the opportunity to develop ideas through the use of materials, techniques and processes.
GELL PRINTING
This practical day will be spent working with a gell plate to create a portfolio of prints, both on fabric and paper. The workshop is aimed at anyone interested in developing this fantastic and versatile printing technique into their teaching practices in Art or Textile lessons.
You will spend the day creating a variety of samples on fabric and paper, using different techniques and skills these processes can be developed and made to suit many creative and assessment objectives needs.
Learn and practice how to -
Gell print several layers of design and colour by using natural materials, and manmade stencils. This process gives an opportunity to learn about the composition of a design, the layering of pattern and colour as well as the theory of colour.
Gell print using mark making tools to add texture and pattern onto fabric / paper. This is an opportunity for expression and experimentation in a personally creative way. Again developing colour and design skills.
Transfer an image from a magazine and from a colour photocopier onto paper/fabric. This technique lends itself to further development with older students using photography and drawing skills.
Transfer gold/silver or bronze leaf directly onto paper/fabric, to create unique and unusual patterns and textures. This skill can be incorporated into lots of other textile processes and developed appropriately by older students.
Learn and practice new and exciting skills that will enhance your teaching.
