Toiles and Alterations - Skirt Block/Sloper  An online on-demand Course

This course is aimed at any one interested in understanding how to make, fit and alter a Skirt blocks to get a perfect fit. No two people have exactly the same shape. once you have constructed block or made a test sample you will need to construct a toile to check the fit and make change if required. If you are a home sewer, thinking of starting a fashion micro business, a new BA textiles or fashion student, a textiles or DT teacher, or a student studying textiles at school, this course is for you. You can work with a skirt block constructed from Textiles Skills Centre Simple Basic block course, a block you have already constructed, the size 12 skirt block provided, or you could use a commercial simple pencil skirt pattern.


You will learn,

  • How to construct a simple skirt, block for a toile pattern

  • Making up the Toile garment

  • Understanding dart theory related to the skirt

  • How to alter the block for: Waist to big/pointy darts/protruding hip curve Skirt hem lifting up Pronounced bottom Larger stomach

The course is delivered through short video tutorials, instruction handouts and guides, plus useful tips to support your learning experience. The course is divided into units and will provide a learning journey through simple tasks and instructions.
