A Motivational Online-Live Course for Teachers of GCSE D&T Textiles
If you need support with understanding and implementing the D&T GCSE Textiles specification, then this course will give you what you need, plus an opportunity to ask questions.
This is an *ONLINE LIVE COURSE* with the Textile Skills Centre Trainer RACHEL ADDY and will cover 4 different Design & Technology textiles specifications at GCSE Level: AQA, Edexcel (Pearson), OCR & Eduqas.

The course is designed to be interactive and there are several tasks to complete during the day as well as a personal assignment on ‘progression within Design & Technology, which can be completed in your own time.
Many exemplars and guides are included in the course and can be downloaded for future use.Our aim is to support, encourage and inspire you so that you can support, encourage and inspire your students!
What to expect on the day:
This course will support your understanding of the specification; plan a scheme of work; understand the assessment objectives; and how you can enable all students to progress.
The specification: an overview
Coving all areas of the spec: how to manage & making bite-size chunks
Making D&T Creative: looking at creative teaching methods and incorporating theory into practical lessons
Design communication: Looking at how each specification describes "design" in the context of textiles GCSE: Using different simple methods of CAD & Sketching in lessons
Material Areas: What is expected at GCSE with regards to other materials, with guides to bringing other materials into textiles theory lessons
Industry Vs Classroom: How to ensure you are delivering manufacturing knowledge whilst teaching classroom methods.
Planning: planning and writing your own Scheme of Work. What does a scheme of work need? Looking at the choice of themes, techniques, area of study, equipment, timing, your own and school timetable.
Assessment: Understanding the assessment objectives and how to teach them
Progression: how can you enable all your students to make progress? Assessment for progress, careers, enrichment, and ambition. Guides, trackers, and targeting sheets as well as many more ideas.
There is also a ‘frequently asked questions’ list.From the specification "be ambitious and open to explore and take design risks in order to stretch the development of design"

The Planning, Assessment & Progression course is an experience that delivers textiles knowledge and understanding. This learning environment allows you personal creative engagement to gain new ideas, showing how these can be incorporated into schemes of work and lesson plans and delivered in a fun, inspiring and engaging way for your students. You can ask questions direct to the course developer/leader, you will have time to make resources and network online with other teachers.
Rachel Addy
BSC(Hons) Textiles Design for Fashion & Interiors: Specialising in knit.
RACHEL has been the Events Planner & a host for the Textile Skills Centre events since April 2021. She also works as a Design & Technology Teacher as well as taking part in multiple events globally expanding her network of Textile Professionals. Rachel’s initial career was in the fashion industry working for 9 years around the world as a Product Developer.
She worked for an American based company called GIII based in Hangzhou China and has spent several years travelling the globe working with various textile manufacturers. Rachel has worked with customers from around the world including the high street stores from Marks and Spencer to Moss Bros.
Rachel’s has since moved into teaching as Design and Technology Teacher. She has taught Graphics, Textiles, Fashion Textiles & Product Design. Rachel has spent several years working for not-for-profit Networking events to support locals in making connections that will encourage skill sharing & develop professional relationships that may one day open the door to other opportunities.
